At the foot of the Mount Srđ, the Slavs have built a colony and named it Dubrovnik. The name Dubrovnik comes from a Croatian word dubrava, meaning oak. The city of Dubrovnik, the "Adriatic pearl", formerly known as the Republic of Ragusa, is on the bucket list of every traveler. Dubrovnik is one the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea and has been a part of the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1979. Clear blue sky, turquoise blue sea depths in coves, sandy beaches and steep cliffs, lush vegetation with cypresses, pines, laurels and rosemary, excellent nightlife, restaurants and taverns with various local and international cuisine specialties are the best features of this city but not the only thing that Dubrovnik has to offer.

Its cultural and historical heritage will attract every tourist, such as beautiful city walls, numerous fortresses, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces. The history of this city and its name is an interesting story told by wall cracks and niches when walking so it is not surprising that many people call Dubrovnik ‘a living museum’.

Enjoy the view

Dubrovnik is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a late medieval town with the consuetudinary street layout.

It offers various day trips to many beautiful nearby locations, surroundings towns and islands, such as Srđ, Lokrum Island, Elafite Islands and Ston, while Montenegro and Bosnia& Herzegovina are only a short drive away. Dubrovnik is a home to the magnificent Onofrio fountain, built by Onofrio della Cava and situated right next to the church of Saint Salvation, along the Pile Gate. The fountain has supplied the city and its habitants with clean water, up until the devastating earthquake, which occurred in 1667. Although the earthquake has damaged the fountain and weakened its functionality, it has remained since then a favorite place for gathering, both residents and tourists.

Each summer, from July 10th till August 25th, its city center turns into a large open-air theater. Namely, since 1950, Dubrovnik has become a main spot for undoubtedly the largest and most representative cultural manifestation, not only in Dubrovnik, but in all of Croatia - Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The city lives for the Festival and the Festival comes alive with the city. Thousands of artists, actors, directors, musicians, culture lovers, Dubrovnik residents and its tourists flock into the city and enjoy its rich and spectacular summer program.
